Womens review of winning Grand final 2020

6/10/2020

Comments

Our mantra for the Inaugural Women’s season was W.O.W, by the looks of the crowd they were all thinking wow as the game progressed. Women of Weyba, the Senior Women’s side really put on a show for the Tiger faithful.
The first time starting at 10am and by far the biggest ground they had played on. With only 16 taking the field in the Women’s competition, rotations, and the ability to run both ways was always paramount. With the first goal going the way of Hinterland our girls did not waiver. Within minutes Kate Maggs kicked our first goal, it was off the ground a brilliant 2nd effort and within Minutes Jess Corvino slotted a beauty from a sharp angle on the run. Going into the first break we had a five-point buffer, but the heat was certainly on.

The second quarter saw a tirade of defensive efforts right across the board. Simone Clapman on the last line of defence saved numerous goals.  Shanice Jackson’s and Nicole Cousins efforts were vital in propelling us forward. Through the mid field Hinterland were set on trying shut down Raegan and Cassie, to both the girl’s credit they kept putting their head over ball and winning it forward. The score line remained the same throughout with the halftime break the girls still 5 points up.

Our squad came out in the third quarter with a point to prove and that was as simple as ‘we want this more’ Letisha Fox with that never say die attitude made life extremely hard for Hinterland. This quarter belonged to Eliza ‘Chip’ Trompf who seemed to have the ball on string and her 2nd and 3rd efforts just to stop Hinterland were great to watch. Despite our great defensive efforts and forward entries, the final break saw us with only a one-point lead.

In the last quarter it took every one of the girls out there to put their hands up and have an impact. It was end to end football with scoring opportunities for both sides, heart in your mouth sort of football. Honestly having watched the replay I could mention everyone of our 22 players. From the sidelines, I was so proud of these individual efforts and our team continuing to harass hinterland.

We got up by three points and it felt amazing for everyone involved. Our Women have etched their names in Tiger History.

Coach,
Peter Trompf
